I'm very proud to be managing the comms for one of the 25 national 'Flood and Coastal Resilience Innovation Projects' (FCRIP)in the UK: RAIN Northants

These Defra-funded projects, which are managed by the Environment Agency, are focused on driving innovation in flood and coastal resilience, to help communities adapt to a changing climate.

Last week, we supported BBC Look East and BBC Radio Northampton as they worked to create a special report on flooding - which included looking at the work that continues to take place in the county in relation to flood risk management.

As well as providing information on RAIN's property flood resilience programme, which helps households, we talked about our work with communities & parish council to create community flood plans and flood stores, plus ventured into the countryside to show how nature-based solutions are also being created.

In this case, a wetland is being created in partnership with a local landowner to help reduce and peak and slow the flow of water, when wet weather hits Harper Brook.

Getting out into the community and talking to those that the project will be benefiting is very humbling, and I'm proud to be a part of the team. The outputs of this innovation project aim to make a real difference to many people.

The BBC coverage landed yesterday with a full focus on BBC Radio Northampton throughout the day, including each on-the-hour news bulletin, an online story on the BBC's regional news page, plus a feature on BBC Look East's lunchtime and evening broadcast bulletins. Proud to see and hear our project team tell the RAIN project's story so well.

On top of this, the team all attended a Winter Forum last week at London's Wetland Centre where we met with the other 24 FCRIP projects to share learnings and best practice. A fantastic day with like-minded people.

Moments like these remind me why this work matters. Flood risk is growing, but so too is the collective effort to help mitigate its impact!

Let's see what we can achieve next! 💥
